About

Hi, I'm Abby!

Like a lot of homesteaders, this is a dream I’ve had in my heart since I was a small child. And after I made a last-minute decision to forgo college, I decided to pursue my homesteading dream sooner rather than later, and Blossoming Barn Farm was born in September of 2021!

I am on a journey to get in touch with creation, achieve true food security, and be a good steward of the land I’ve been blessed with.

I call Wisconsin home and have a small 3.8-acre homestead in this beautiful midwestern state.

At the end of 2021, I had only two pet ducks left over from high school, now the farm has grown to 13 ducks, 31 chickens, 2 barn cats, 2 gardens, and counting!

The story of our property is a beautiful one –  This farm came into my family in the early 1900s and was a family dairy farm for a number of years. After the farm sold its last few cows, my grandpa took over the family roofing company that operated out of the barn.

After the roofing company closed down, the property sat largely unused for most of my childhood. After a lot of convincing, my grandpa finally gave in to my homesteading dreams. I am extremely grateful to be able to use this land for all my homesteading craziness!

At the moment, I garden, raise ducks, raise chickens, and do a lot of home cooking and baking. I am also learning how to can with my mom and I’m loving baking my own sourdough bread! In addition to growing my own food, I also sell microgreens, chicken eggs, duck eggs, and plan to expand into market gardening in the 2023 season.

Meet the Animals!

Meet George and Milo, two little brothers who are growing up in my barn to keep the vermin at bay.

I have a mixed flock of nearly 50 poultry consisting of Muscovy, Pekin, and Welsh Harlequin ducks and Bielefelder, Silver Gray Dorking, Buff Orpington, and Dominique chickens.
